When providing a recording, for any purpose, the four disciplines below are the main objectives.
Preparation
ECR always tries to be involved in the preparation fase. Thinking about the program, a title for the album, a good recording location, planning, or anything that might come up.
This involvement is vital in order to create the right environment at day 1 of the recording session.
Recording - sound quality
The combination of great acoustics, high quality equipment and microphone placement makes the sound of the recording. During a session recording adjustments will be made until both musicians and technician are satisfied.
ECR uses state of the art equipment to ensure a realistic and natural representation of what is happening on stage.
Producing - musical quality
Besides the quality of sound there lies a responsibility for the musical quality. The producer should enable the musicians to utilize their qualities to the fullest. This is done by objective feedback and making notes in the score.
This process requires knowledge of music notation, but maybe more important, a feeling on what it means for a musician to deliver their own personal musical message.
Editing, mixing and mastering - listening quality
The notes in the score are used to make the 1st edit. After feedback from the musician(s) the journey starts to make a beautiful, unified version of the piece. The right balance between instruments/voices and perhaps necessarily finetuning of the sound (mixing) and preparing the digital master (mastering) finishes the proces.
On this site there is a blog about the editing. If you are interested to read it, please click here.
