My name is Ernst Coutinho and I started my own recording and post-production business after graduating from the Art of Sound program at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, with a focus on Classical Recording.
In addition to my studies at the conservatory, I was given the opportunity to intern at Channel Classics Records. There I assisted in session recordings with musicians such as the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Sol Gabetta, Rachel Podger and Brecon Baroque, as well as the Budapest Festival Orchestra with Iván Fischer.
Later on, I have worked with Lahav Shani and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra for orchestral recordings with Martin Fröst and Daniel Barenboim, among others.
Working with younger musicians who are at the beginning of their career and working with smaller ensembles is something I value a lot as well.
I have developed a clear vision on recording. Recording classical music is about using the right techniques in accordance with the characteristics of the hall to enhance the quality of the recording. This does not only mean careful placement of the microphones, but also understanding the musicians and giving them feedback during a recording session to really capture the essence of the music.
The musical moments you create as a team are too beautiful to be heard just once, and that is why I love making recordings.
EC Recording specializes in recording classical music - both live recordings and session recordings. If you are interested in any cooperation please feel free to get in contact with me.
